15th century Spain: for almost 700 years, the conflict for dominance over the country has raged between Christian and Muslim rulers. Spain is divided into several kingdoms, counties, provinces, and an emirate. As a member of the Grandes, the high nobility, you want to expand your influence. So you send out your brave knights, the Caballeros, to conquer regions and gain more power. By cleverly using ever new action cards, you try to sabotage your opponent‘s strategies. Influence the king in your favor and weave intrigues to stay one step ahead of the other players.

In 1996, El Grande became Game of the Year (Spiel des Jahres) and is played by fans all over the world ever since. We have revised the contents of El Grande and also gave it a visual update. The game itself has remained the same and has lost none of its tactical fun.
